The district government of Tanah Bumbu seeks a solution as broiler price surged to reached IDR52,000 per head.

At the traditional market in Simpang Empat Sub-district and in Batulicin, broiler price has touched IDR52,000 per head in the last one week.

"In almost one week chicken price in traditional markets in Simpang Empat and Batulicin has jumped by IDR7,000 per head, from IDR45,000 to IDR52,000," said Umy Wulan, a housewife in Barokah Village, Simpang Empat, Friday.

Some traders, who used to stock chicken, said they have no choice but to raise the selling price. They reasoned that the price at the chicken farmers went up.

"We hope the local government to immediately take steps to overcome until the price of chicken meat remains under control," she said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Trade and Industry Office H Deny Haryanto explained that the surge of chicken price occurred not only in Tanah Bumbu but also in other districts and cities in South Kalimantan.

"We will coordinate with big traders and other related parties to find the best solution, so people can buy chicken at an affordable price, while traders still gain profit," he said.

His agency will also conduct monitoring related to the price increase. It will also carry out market operation when the price of other basic necessities are not stable.

"The price of basic necessities in Tanah Bumbu is still safe, there isno significant increase, there are even a number of commodities such as red chili which price down by IDR2,000 per kg," he concluded.
