The jump up price of chicken meat in the markets in the last month in South Kalimantan was apparently due to breeders running out of chick breeds or day-old chicken stocks.
Mini Nor Awalia, one of the breeders in Cempaka, Banjarbaru city, acknowledged the empty supply of broilers from farmers to traders was indeed the main trigger of price surge of chicken meat in the markets.
"In fact breeders, including me, have not received a supply of chicks breed until now. There are some, but have not reached harvest age," Mini said here, Friday.
According to her, the empty supply of chick breeds for farmers have lasted since before Idul Fitri or mid-May 2020.
"For me, the chicks may enter around July 20. We currently are preparing cages, it cleanliness for example, so it is ready when the chicks come and will breed healthy until harvest," she said.
About the surge of price at the retail level which now penetrates IDR45.000 to IDR48.000 per kg, she assured, has no effects on farmers.
The reason is there was a price contract beforehand between farmers and companies or collectors, thus the rise and fall of price in the markets will have no impact on farmers.
"Our final contract price was IDR20 thousand, when the price on the market was IDR30 thousand. So the condition of price increase in the market is now a double profit for companies that supply traders," she concluded.
This woman who wears hijab has a chicken farm which once harvest six to seven tons from the period of about 28 days.
