Secretary of Banjarmasin Transportation Agency Fendie stated that the homebound (mudik) routes by the river have been closed in accordance to the central government mudik ban due to Coronavirus or COVID-19 outbreak.

"We have closed all (government-owned) river ports since the mudik ban takes effect in order no more transportation in and out through the river," Fendie said in Banjarmasin, Thursday.

Among the ports temporarily closed were Banjar Permai Port, Sudimampir Market Port, and Lima Market Port.

The agency has also requested the private or community ports not to operate..

"We are also intensifying patrol to ensure there is no river public transportation from outside to enter Banjarmasin," he said.

He acknowledged it was not easy to guard all entrances through the river in this river city, due to the many entrances it has.

"Our personnel and patrol vessels are also limited, while there are many entrances through the river in this area," he said.

Banjarmasin City has implemented the Large Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) to break the chain of COVID-19 since April 24 to May 7, then it was extended from May 8 to May 21, 2020.

At present, all public transportation owned by the city government, the Banjarmasin trans bus, has been stopped operation until the PSBB over and the spread of COVID-19 has subsided.
