A Directorate General of Public Health of the Ministry of Health official paid a visit to monitor and evaluate the Village Cashed Labor Intensive (PKTD) program in North Hulu Sungai (HSU).
Head Sub-directorate of Water and Basic Sanitation of the Directorate of Public Health Ely Setyawati reviewed the PKTD project in the form of making healthy latrines in two villages, Simpang Empat and Bajawit.
The review was also in the context of accelerating the achievement of access to sanitation. By 2019 Indonesia should achieve 100 percent sanitation access.
"Through this review, we want to trigger fellow HSU ranks to accelerate sanitation access in all villages in HSU to become a pilot for ODF village in South Kalimantan," Ely said in Amuntai, recently.

She said, open defecation free (ODF) is a condition when every individual in the community does not do open defecate or defecate carelessly.
Disposing of feces that do not meet the requirements is very influential in spreading environmental-based diseases. To cut the chain of transmission this must be engineered in the access.

Related to the construction of the barrel-shaped toilets in several villages in the HSU District, Ely said, it applied an appropriate technology adapted to the local condition of tidal swamp water that is expected to bring HSU into an ODF district.
