The Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) Quick Scan workshop held by the city government to discuss the Banjarmasin City's development challanges in the future.

"It focus on topics related to the development challanges of Banjarmasin City in the future, either related to sanitation, rivers as the city transportation mode, and preservation of its culture heritage," Head of Tourism Development of Banjarmasin Culture and Tourism Agency M Khuzaimi said to Antara, Tuesday (Oct 29, 2019).

21 participants, consisted of college students and young professionals from Banjarmasin and outside Kalimantan, took part in the workshop in Rumah Anno.

The workshop featuring Hasti Tarekat from Heritage Hands-on Netherland, Jacqueline Rosbergen and Peter Timmer from Culture Heritage Agency of the Netherland's Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, then Vera D Damayanti from Dept of Lanscape Architecture of the Bogor Institute of Agriculture, as sourcepersons.

Khuzaimi said, the participants divided into four groups to conduct observation in some location in Banjarmasin, then they present the result of observation.

Places they observed, such as the heritage of Kampung (the Village of) Kelayan, Kampung Beras (the Village of Rice), structuring and preservation of heritage houses in the Sungai Jingah, and observation of the history of the Kampung Arab (Arab village).

They also observed and presented the still preserved potentials of culture, such as Kampung Sasirangan, community along the riverside, heirlooms, local wisdom and sasirangan products, he pointed out.

According to him, tomorrow (Thursday Oct 31), the result of the analysis or their work will be presented and discussed with the experts and stakeholders with source persons from Netherlands.

In the discussion, he continued, the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) Quick Scan puts more emphasis on urban development through the approachment of development resulted by the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency, which was adopted from the UNESCO's Historic Urban Landscape framework.

This method, he said, is expected to help practitioners better understand of an urban landscape in limitation of time. Thus the formulation of basic concepts of future development can be done based on features of cultural heritage, both tangibe or intangible

Dengan metode tersebut, lanjutnya, diharapkan dapat lebih membantu para praktisi memahami sebuah lanskap perkotaan dalam keterbatasan waktu. Sehingga perumusan konsep dasar pengembangan masa mendatang, dapat dilakukan berdasarkan fitur-fitur warisan budaya, baik yang tangible maupun intangible.
