A number of world professors gathered here in the International Conference on Mathematics, Science, and Computer Education (IC-MSC Edu) and workshops with the theme The Role of Mathematics, Science and Computer Education in Improving the 21st Century Skills in Industrial Revolution 4.0.
Among them are Prof. Kathy Cabe Trundle, Ph.D. from Utah State University United States, Prof. Peter Charles Taylor from Murdoch University Australia, Prof. Dr. Susan E. McKenney from Twente University Netherlands, and Dr. Mohd. Ali bin Ibrahim from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Prof. Dr. Ghazali bin Sulong from Management and Science University Malaysia.
From within the country Prof. Intan Ahmad, Ph.D. and Prof. Dr. Ing. Mitra Djamal from the Bandung Institute of Technology, and Prof. Dr. Anna Permanasari, M.Sc. from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.
"With speakers from various countries, we will gain knowledge and experience in facing the current era, especially in terms of higher education," said ULM Rector Prof. Dr. H. Sutarto Hadi in the seminar organized by ULM's Faculty of Teaching Education from Mathematics and Science (MIPA) at Hotel Ario Barito during Wednesday (7/8) and Thursday (8/8).
The rector also responded to estimates that the Industrial Revolution 4.0 would eliminate up to 50 million jobs with the internet of things and artificial intelligence.
"This forces us to adapt so that ULM graduates can survive in facing it. ULM must produce innovative, creative, informative, and better-prepared human resources entering the industrial era 4.0," said the mathematician who was graduated from Twente University in the Netherlands.
Sutarto also saw FKIP as a place to educate prospective teachers to make it an important position in dealing with industry 4.0.

"At present we are still teaching students in the traditional way by orienting books. Though the theory is sometimes out of date. In the future we must emphasize understanding of concepts, problem solving and solving various realistic problems with life," he explained.
While the ULM FKIP Dean Dr. Chairil Faif Pasani considered, the meeting was an opportunity to exchange educational modules with professors from other countries. So it can be combined with existing learning modules in an effort to improve the quality of education in ULM.
The conference was expected to be a forum for the publication of scientific journals. In the future, this conference can develop useful scientific research. The committee received 106 journals to be published both indexed by Scopus and Sinta.
