Banjarmasin, (Antaranews, South Kalimantan) - Governor Rudy Ariffin H revealed that in general the province in 2012 managed to increase production of food crops, except soybeans and sweet potatoes.

Governor said this in his introduction to Report on Accountability Fiscal Year 2012 in the House of Representative plenary session led by vice-chairman H Riswandi in Banjarmasin, Tuesday. He explained that in 2012 rice production increased 2.35 percent compared to 2011, from 2.038 million tons to 2.086 million tons.

"The ability to increase rice production, placing South Kalimantan in the top ten provincial national rice buffer," said the two terms governor.

Maize production increased 12.31 percent, from 99.779 tons in 2011 to 112.065 tonnes in 2012. Then peanuts rose 1.59 percent, up 8.90 percent for green beans, and cassava rose 4.09 percent.

"In line with the increase in agricultural production, throughout the year 2012, the exchange rate of the farmers (NTP) also increased 0.79 percent compared to 2011," he said adding that NTP increase reflects increased purchasing power of farmers and their welfare.
