Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Kotabaru Water Police Unit (Satpolair) provides clean water as assistance to residents in the coastal areas when they have difficulty getting it since the dry season.
"Assistance is given following the ongoing clean water crisis in North Pulau Laut Subdistrict in series of social services for the 68th Water and Air Police Corps in 2018," said Satpolair Chief Adj Comr (AKP) Christugus Lirens on Saturday.
"This is a form of our concern for the community," he said again.
A ton of clean water was distributed to Rampa Village by sea using a fishing boat. From a mooring ship at the village dock, the water was pumped and piped. There, residents collected various water storage containers, such as barrels, jerry cans, and buckets.
"After Rampa Village, we headed to Dirgahayu Village. At least we supplied half a ton to one ton of clean water," Christugus said.
Rampa Village Chief Syamsir Alam said that clean water assistance was very beneficial for the community.
"Water from the tap water company (PDAM) is still disrupted, it can take four days to five days to flow, sometimes it does not arrive. So, we are very grateful for this assistance," he said.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the Kotabaru has now entered the rainy season after passing the peak of the dry season last October.
However, the distribution of clean water from Kotabaru PDAM to its customers in North Pulau Laut is still not normal. This condition is because there is no significant addition of water discharge in the Gunung Ulin Reservoir.
