Cooperation with LIPI is expected to be able to advance the regional agricultural sector,Tanjung, S Kalimantan (Antaranewa) - Tabalong District Government collaborated with the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) to develop upland (gogo) inpago rice varieties in Bintang Ara Subdistrict.
Regent Anang Syakhfiani said the cooperation in agriculture is an effort to increase rice production in the region. "Cooperation with LIPI is expected to be able to advance the regional agricultural sector," he said.
Rice varieties developed in Bintang Ara Village, Bintang Ara Subdistrict, are the result of LIPI's research with Tabalong government.
Test of gogo inpago rice planting is carried out on an abandoned land of a former plantation covering an area of 25 hectares. LIPI Deputy Eny Hayati said two upland rice varieties developed at Tabalong had the advantage of harvesting at the age of 110 to 113 days after the seeds are planted.
Its productivity is high with an average yield potential of 4.5 tons of dry-mill rice (GKG) per hectare or higher than the national average of 3.5 tons per hectare.
"This variety is resistant to blast and aluminum stress which is found in many areas, including South Kalimantan," said Eny.
The development of this variety is part of the agricultural integrity program which covers the supply of fertilizers, insecticides, rice, and land.
