Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Chairwoman of the Council for National Handicrafts Indonesia (Dekranas) Hj Mufidah Jusuf Kalla showed interest in sasirangan, the typical cloth of South Kalimantan, and suggested to work with designers to improve the design.
"Specifically for sasirangan fabrics, I look forward to upgrading product designs by working with designers to follow suit models to meet market demands," she said here.
The Dekranas Chairwoman Hj Mufidah Jusuf Kalla came to the city whose nickname "A thousand rivers" and visited the South Kalimantan Dekranasda Building on Jalan Dharma Praja and Creative Sasirangan Building on Jalan Achmad Yani Km 4.5 Banjarmasin on Wednesday.
She looked very interested to see the sasirangan crafters demonstrated the technique of making the typical cloth motif. Hence, she also hopes in the future design of fabric motif can be further developed, so as to meet market needs.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla's wife visited the two buildings accompanied by Chairwoman of Dekranasda South Kalimantan Hj Raudhatul Jannah Sabirin Noor and Chairwoman of Dekranasda Banjarmasin Hj Siti Wasilah.
Hj Mufidah Jusuf Kalla said her arrival to South Kalimantan to take a closer look at the existing superior products, among which are sasirangan and the best-known diamonds of South Kalimantan in the world.
"We are very proud of Dekranasda South Kalimantan which has grown creativity and innovation by developing typical motifs of South Kalimantan, so that it can improve competitiveness also pay attention to cultural heritage to maintain local wisdom such as sasirangan fabric," she said in a press-release sent by Public Relations of Banjarmasin City Government to AntaranewsKalsel.
She remarked, Dekranasda's duties as a government partner in preserving cultural heritage, also to empower crafters by digging, preserving, fostering and developing handicraft-based products of cultural heritage, so as to create the welfare of artisans in economic independence.
