Pelaihari, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) in the series of the commemoration of the 72nd anniversary of Independence Day held social service by planting trees and cleaning Batakan Beach in Tanah Laut.
"The choice of Tanah Laut as a place of TNI-AL's social service because it is considered to have many historical values in Indonesian Independence," said Banjarmasin Naval-Base Commander Sea Colonel (P) Oky IZ Dipura in Pelaihari, Thursday (24/8).
He said the troop of National Hero Brigjen H Hasan Basri first landed in Batakan village, Tanah Laut when defending the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) in Kalimantan.
The tree planting and cleaning of Batakan Beach also involved the local community, students, and Scout of the Panyipatan Sub-district. They planted trembesi (Albizia saman) and ketapang (Terminalia catappa) trees.
He hoped the activity provided benefits to the people of Tanah Laut, especially with the greenery.
Separately, Expert Staff of Social Affairs and Human Resources of Tanah Laut Safarin who represented the Regent Bambang Alamsyah expressed his gratitude to the Navy in keeping the cleanliness and environmental sustainability of the beach.
Furthermore, he said, the people of Tanah Laut much depend on their daily life from the beach and go to sea.
"This activity will certainly help the lives and welfare of people in this area," he said.
