Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Rescue team of Sahabat Bekantan Indonesia (SBI) Foundation evacuated protected animals hornbill rhinoceros (Buceros rhinoceros) and three Kalimantan lemurs (Nycticebus bancanus) from the village of Sumber Baru, Tanah Bumbu District, Wednesday (26/10).
Chairman of SBI Amalia Rezeki said one-gibbon (Hylobates muelleri) and proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) also evacuated from the village of Binawara. The team accompanied by village officials and police.
Before the evacuation, Amelia explained, the team firstly gave explaination and education to community related to regulations and legislation on possession of protected wildlife animal.
On October 26, 2016 people reported to the SBI regarding their desire to hand over the animals. SBI rescue team then coordinated with the South Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA).
Then follow up with a glide to the Angsana and Kusan Hulu sub-districtin to respond the community's reports.
Arman and Miftahudin voluntarily handed over hornbill and lemurs they rescued from a forest fire. Just like the previous incident, Noor Rahman of Binawara village official also handed the baby of uwa uwa evacuated by local residents.
"We greatly appreciate the efforts of citizens who voluntarily handed over protected animals, which they kept before. Similarly to the village officials and the local resort police officers who helped evacuate the protected wildlife," said Amalia Rezeki.
