Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Banjarbaru government declared it readiness to vaccinate as many as 29,000 children aged 6-11 years as part of the government's program to protect children from COVID-19.
"we are prepared to carry out vaccination for children aged 6-11 year and will coordinate with Education Agency so the program runs well," said Head of Banjarbaru Health Agency Rizana Mirza, Sunday.
The vaccination for elementary school aged children will be officiated at the SDN 1 Guntung Paikat with a target of 500 children.
He hopes all primary school-age children, totalling 29,000 in the city, will participate in the vaccination according to the schedule previously set.
"We have prepared 30,000 dose of Sinovac vaccine to be administered in the vaccination to be held in schools or other places," he said.
The available Sinovac vaccine is the previous stock and will be added by the provincial government to meet the need of vaccine for Banjarbaru who is determined to make the program successful.
Children vaccination is part of preparation for a full direct schooling in Banjarbaru which will begin on Monday.
"The vaccination for children is expected to build herd immunity so they will be prevented from COVID-19 and face-to-face learning will run well," he said.
