Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo inaugurated operations at Randugunting Dam in Blora district, Central Java province, during a working visit to the province on Wednesday.
He also took a tour of the reservoir in a dragon boat.
"Alhamdulillah (all praises be to God), Randugunting Dam in Blora district, Central Java province, has been completed and able to be used," he remarked.
The dam has a water storage capacity of 14.4 million cubic meters and will irrigate approximately 650 hectares of rice fields in Blora, Pati, and Rembang districts, he informed.
"We expect that the operation of the reservoir will improve our food security and food self-sufficiency," the President stated.
Water is key to food security, therefore, the government has built as many dams as possible to provide the resource, he added.
He said he expected the dam to become a great tourism site, which can improve the welfare of the people in the district.
"By saying Bismillahirrohmanirrohim (in the name of Allah Ta’alaa, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful), I inaugurate the Randugunting Dam," he remarked.
