Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - South Kalimantan government through the Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) and the provincial chapter of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) set 10 leading branches of sports for the 20th National Sports Week (PON) 2021 in Papua.
Head of Sports Achievement Improvement of the Dispora M Fitri Hernadi here on Tuesday said that athletes and coaches of the 10 leading sports receive incentives for training camps.
"We have just finalized the decree (SK) of the team, athletes, and coaches who are given incentives for training camps toward PON in Papua, only ten sports," said M Fitri Hernadi here on Tuesday.
According to him, 10 of the 24 sports that will compete in the 20th National Sports Week in Papua are wrestling, shooting, boxing, billiard, karate, wushu, kempo, silat, rowing, and athletics.
"(This involves) about 100 athletes and coaches," he said.
The ten sports that receive training incentives were those who won medals in the pre-PON.
This, said Fitri, was due to the limited budget, thus not all sports receive the incentive for training camps to prepare for PON which was scheduled for October 2-31, 2021.
Although more attention is paid to these 10 leading sports, somehow the government is still paying attention to other sports to be guaranteed to be sent to PON.
"The branches other than those 10 sports Insya Allah (God Willing) will receive. What more important for them is to go (to compete in the Papua's PON)," he said.
