Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo has appointed Sakti Wahyu Trenggono as minister of maritime affairs and fisheries in place of Edhy Prabowo, who resigned from the post after being named a suspect in an alleged bribery case.
Born in Semarang, Central Java, on November 3, 1962, Trenggono is currently serving as the deputy defense minister.
The businessman and politician was also treasurer of the National Mandate Party (PAN) from 2009 to 2013.
He later served as the treasurer of Widodo’s campaign team when he ran for presidency in 2014.
Trenggono graduated from the school of industrial technique at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1986 and pursued his management magistrate degree (S2) from the same institute.
He started his career with Federal Motor as a programmer. He worked with the company from 1986 to 1992. He is currently chief of Village Cooperative Units Center (INKUD) and commissioner of PT Tower Bersama TBK.
He is also known as one of the initiators of the Association of Indonesian Telecommunication Tower Providers (ASPMTEL).
President Widodo announced six new ministers in the Indonesia Onward Cabinet at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Widodo has appointed Tri Rismaharini as social affairs minister, Sandiaga Salahudin Uno as tourism and creative economy minister, Budi Gunadi Sadikin as health minister, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as religious affairs minister, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono as maritime affairs and fisheries minister, and M. Lutfi as trade minister.
The new ministers will be inducted into the Cabinet on Wednesday. (INE)
