Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) Climatological Station (Staklim) Class I Banjarbaru appealed to all parties in South Kalimantan to be alert against extreme weather that may occurs along the transition season.

"watch out the period of transition from rainy to dry season, because of the extreme weather, either heavy rain or excessive heat temperatures," said Head of BMKG Staklim Banjarbaru Purwanto on Sunday.

Monitoring by network weather observation satellite center captures the appearance of El Nino activity in the global atmospheric dynamics of the world, so a national drought predicted to be more severe.

He explained, although the emergence of El Nino activity still weak, it did not rule out intensified development as the last El Nino five-year cycle occurred in 2009.

"At that time, a severe drought hit almost all parts of Indonesia and five-year cycle is likely occurs in 2014 or shifted to next year," he said.

According to him, the more severe drought due to global climate change as a result of the thinning of the earth's atmosphere ozone layer (O3), thus reducing the filter function to exposure to sunlight.

On the other hand, the greenhouse effect of the reflection of the sun's heat directly into the earth causing the earth's surface heats up and melt the polar ice so heat is getting stung./dani/e
