Martapura, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - As many as 43.000 durians ran out just in minutes when the people of South Kalimantan ate free durian with Governor H Sahbirin Noor in Kiram Park tourist attraction in Banjar District, Saturday (Jan 18, 2020).
"Please eat as much as you can, but don't take it home," the governor announced through a loudspeaker, when durians were distributed.
Here Durian Festival was held filled with eating free durian with the governor, durian contest and exhibition of exotic typical fruits of South Kalimantan.
The committee of the festival estimated about 24 thousand people attended the festival, which is an annual agenda. People so enthusiastic, when durian, carried by 10 units of trucks, distributed. In about 20 minutes, all durian finished.
"Alhamdulilah (Thank God) we meet again in durian festival this year. This durian feast for the people and as a form of preserving the superiority of South Kalimantan durian which thrives in almost all regions," said the governor (familiarly called Uncle Birin).

On the side, he sees the potential durian as supporting economy in South Kalimantan as a renewable natural resources. In addtion to increase in tourism sector which is also very attractive for tourists to taste the delicacy of South Kalimantan's durian.
"Coal which reaches 20 percent of South Kalimantan's economy will be exhauted. We therefore from now should think of a renewable natural resources through agriculture, one of which is durian to support the economy and to finally be able to prosper the people of Bumi Lambung Mangkurat (nickname of South Kalimantan)," he remarked.
The gathering of thousands of people to eat durian gained a special appreciation from the Indonesian World Record Achievement Institute (LEPRID).
With serial number 557 and 558, LEPRID officially recorded South Kalimantan as breaking new records, namely the highest audiences category of around 24.000 people, and 43.000 for the most durian.
LEPRID General Manager Visca Mahu presented the two awards to the Governor while saying that she highly appreciated the free local fruit eating activity echoed by the governor with his tagline "Bergerak" (Move) which means fight to make people enthusiastic.
Meanwhile, the durian contest won by Si Mangkal durian from Tanah Laut District as the first champion, and si Tangkai Panjang, also from Tanah Laut, as the second winner. While the third place won by Banjar District with Si Kampat durian.
While the category of exhibition won by durian from Central Kalimantan.
