Martapura, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Durian named "Duri Hitam" won the 2020 Banjar Durian Contest in Mandikapau Barat Village, Karang Intan Sub-district, Banjar, South Kalimantan.
In addition to durian contest, initiated by the Banjar Food Crops and Horticulture Agency on Wednesday (Jan 8, 2020), a contest of processed product made from durian and Banjar exotic fruit contest were also held as annual agenda.
Regent Khalilurrahman said, the annual durian contest is not impossible to be held at the national level then the Banjar durians will compete with durians from various regions.
"We consider this contest is not impossible to be held at the national level and if it is carried out, certainly superior durian from Banjar can compete with durians from various region in Indonesia," he remarked.

The durians in the Mandikapau durian contest, he said, were millennial durians, but were liked by all people because of the aroma and taste that was legit (sweet) and soft on the tongue.
It was expected that the festival, which aims to find local durian varieties to be proposed to become national superior varieties, motivates farmers in fruit production centers.
Guru (scholar) Khalil said, Banjar District is the largest producer of durian in South Kalimantan and some of its local varieties have become the national superior varieties, such as si Jagung (the Corn), si Hijau (the Green) and si Dodol.

The contest won by Eldi Afani, the owner of "Duri Hitam" durian from Mandikapau Barat Village. He was entitled to coaching money and placard, so was other winners, whose durian named "Satria" and si "Belek".
The winning durians were immediately registered to the Center for Plant Variety and Agricultural Licensing Protection of the Ministry of Agriculture, in addition to prize from sponsor.
