Governor Sahbirin Noor gave awards to five companies member of the South Kalimantan Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (GAPKI).


The award was presented at a ceremony to commemorate 2019 Disaster Preparedness Day and a ceremony to alert the forest and land fire (karhutla) disaster in the yard of the South Kalimantan provincial office in Banjarbaru on Friday.

"Our appreciation is given for the company's active role in efforts to combat forest and land fires and other disasters and concern for the community," said the governor.

The five companies are PT Tri Buana Mas operates in Tapin-Barito Kuala District, PT Buana Karya Bakti in Tanah Bumbu, PT Gawi Makmur Kalimantan in Tanah Laut, Smart Tbk Tanah Laut-Tanah Bumbu, and PT Kodeco Agro Jaya Mandiri in Tanah Bumbu.

According to the governor, the five palm oil companies deserve an award because they have played an active role in disaster that is a threat to each region.

"The award is given as a form of government appreciation for the active role of those who have a high concern in protecting their environment against the disaster," said the governor.

Head of the South Kalimantan Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Wahyuddin said his side was greatly helped by the active role of Gapki member companies in managing karhutla.

According to him, the Gapki member companies for the past three years greatly helped BPBD in socializing the prevention of forest fires in the community until the incidence of fire was reduced.

Chairman of the South Kalimantan Gapki Totok Dewanto said his party would continue to encourage the company to play an active role in assisting the government in the prevention and control of forest and land fires in the surrounding area.

"Prevention and control of forest and land fires is an obligation of all of us, so we encourage companies to play an active role both through socialization and concrete actions in the field," he said.
