Barabai, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Head of Barabai Detention Center Agung Supriyanto said as many as 40 percent of the inmates were involved in drug cases.


"As many as 60 percent are inmates of criminal cases and others," said Agung, who have served in Central Hulu Sungai District for four months, Thursday (2/14).

He explained, the Barabai Detention Center is currently inhabited by 240 prisoners and is experiencing overcapacity. "Actually the Barabai Prison can only accommodate 109 people, but we are also trying to add new buildings," he said.

Currently there are 45 detainees, consisting of 12 drug cases and 33 other criminal cases. While prisoners are 195, as many as 95 from drug cases and 98 others of criminal cases.

"Every two days we routinely conduct raids and inspections, no schedule could be daylight or night. Sometimes we do a search in the morning, then we do it again in the night without prior notice," Agung told.
