Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The management of the Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (GAPKI) of South Kalimantan brought with them dozens of plasma farmers to the 14th Indonesian Palm Oil Conference (IPOC) and 2019 Price Outlook at the Sofitel Nusa Dua Bali.


Chairman of GAPKI South Kalimantan Totok Dewanto in Bali Monday (29/10) said IPOC is an annual event organized by GAPKI and this is the world's largest palm oil conference with the theme "Palm Oil Development: Contribution to SDGs".

"Our goal to bring in dozens of plasma farmers from South Kalimantan is that they will participate in achieving the goals of sustainable development, especially in advancing oil palm plantations in their respective regions," he said by telephone.

The IPOC was officially opened by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. It raising various challenges for the development of the palm oil sector in the future, such as the rejuvenation of smallholder oil palm plantations, expansion of export markets, downstreaming, and implementation of the B20 program.

Apart from the various challenges, so far the palm oil sector has become the largest contributor to the country's foreign exchange because it is capable of producing 42 million tons of palm oil with a foreign exchange export value of more than Rp300 trillion.

GAPKI Chairperson Joko Supriyono appreciated the support of the government, especially President Jokowi, for the palm oil industry through various policies that encourage the development of the palm oil sector.

According to him, the support is also in the B20 mandatory program, the development of new export markets, the development of oil palm human resources (HR) in various universities and campaigning for the palm oil industry to foreign countries.
