Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Hundreds of students from South and Central Kalimantan competed in the Computer Olympic Week which is held by the Banjarmasin College of Management, Informatics and Computers (STiMIK) at the Balairung Sari Taman Budaya in Banjarmasin from October 22 to 27, 2018.


This is the eleventh computer Olympics held, according to the Chancellor of STIMIK Banjarmasin Husnul Ma'ad Junaidi. "The enthusiasm of the participants is bigger, both at the student and general, more than 160, but for the seminar, there will be more than 500 people," he said at the opening on Monday.

There are eleven competitions contested, including the ability to assemble computers, building applications, and graphic design.

"They are competing for the Olympic trophy. This is also supported by the regional government," he explained.

According to Husnul, this activity aims to hone students' skills in the field of computers they enjoy, especially later they will continue their education to a higher level.

"If you look in the previous years, the ability of students in our area also the neighboring province, Central Kalimantan, is quite extraordinary, they have created many new things," he said.

So, said Husnul, if they take part in the computer Olympics at the national level, they have the chance to get achievements.

"Indeed, the Olympic week is only a regional level for us, but it can go national later," Husnul pointed out.

Achmad Sofiani, Expert Staff for Economic and Development of South Kalimantan Provincial Government, who representing South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor to open the Olympics, saying that expertise in the IT and computer fields is needed by the government to advance development.

"Now is the era of IT, we need generations of experts in this field, so this kind of activity is very good to develop the skills of young people in our area," he explained.
