Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has recorded four subsectors have boosted Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) in South Kalimantan in August with an increase of 0.40 percent compared to the previous month.
Head of BPS South Kalimantan Diah Utami in Banjarbaru on Thursday said the four sub-sectors were the food crops, horticulture, livestock, and fisheries.
"The food crop subsector rose 0.70 percent, horticulture rose 1.33 percent, livestock rose 0.40 percent and the fisheries sub-sector experienced a 0.13 percent increase," she said.
The increase in the food crop subsector was due to the rising prices of superior varieties of grain, such as Ciherang, which had passed the harvest period and the decline in the prices of local varieties of grain.
While the increase in the commodity price index in the fruit group led to an increase in the horticulture subsector, whereas the medicinal plants and vegetable group declined.
The increase in the livestock subsector was due to an increase in the index of commodity prices for large livestock groups 1.96 percent, small livestock groups rose 2.12 percent and livestock yield group 0.64 percent.
"The poultry group fell 1.58 percent due to the group price index of household consumption falling 0.55 percent and the BPPBM index down 0.01 percent," she said.
The fisheries sub-sector rose 0.13 percent because the prices received by farmers fell 0.13 percent and the prices paid experienced a larger increase of 0.27 percent.
While the smallholder plantation sub-sector fell 0.78 percent due to falling prices of plantation commodities such as palm oil, rubber, coffee, and cinnamon bark.
NTP, which is obtained from the comparison of the price index received by farmers to the paid price index, is one indicator to see the purchasing power of rural farmers.
"Farmer exchange rates also show the exchange power of agricultural products with goods and services consumed as well as production costs. The higher the NTP, the stronger the purchasing power of the people," she said.
