Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The people of South Kalimantan began exporting gelinggang leaf or often called Chinese ketapang to some countries for traditional medicines and health care.

Head of Trade Agency Birhasani in Banjarmasin said, currently the forestry potential of South Kalimantan began to be ogled by several countries for the needs of treatment.

"Gelinggang leaf also began to demand by importer countries. The potential will continue to be pushed and increased," he said.

Currently, added Birhasani, the number of exports of products outside mine and CPO is still not significant. Exports are done directly by producers to consumers, so they have not been recorded.

In the future, the export potential will continue to be explored, so as to improve the welfare of the community and increase economic growth, without having to rely on the mining sector.

Gelinggang leaves contain Anthraquinones, glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids, lectins, rhein, tannins, chrysoeriol, kaempferol, quercetin and some other ingredients that have many properties for the body.

Besides gelinggang, previously South Kalimantan residents also have been exporting many typical plants of forest origin, such as gaharu or sandalwood which is useful for perfume raw materials.

The pasak bumi (Eurycoma Longifolia) medicinal plants, already well known, have also been exported to various countries, especially to the Middle East.

These potentialities, Birhasani added, will continue to be developed, so as to be a balancer of mine and CPO exports.
