Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Tiga Roda cement producer PT Indocement Tunggal Prakasa Tbk won the Platinum Award in "Indonesia CSR Award 2017".

The Indocement Corporate Social Responsibility & Security Division (CSRS) Manager Sahat Panggabean said the Platinum Award won by Tiga Roda was the highest appreciation in the event.

"Because it is considered successful in applying environmentally oriented community empowerment program, such as the Tiga Roda run in Langadai Village, Kelumpang Hilir Sub-district, Kotabaru District, South Kalimantan," Sahat said in a press release.

In Langadai, Tiga Roda performs mangrove conservation which is also beneficial in improving the economy of the local village community.

Tiga Roda not only educated  about the importance of maintaining the balance of marine ecosystem with mangrove conservation, it also introduced the economic benefits of Mangrove Tree to the local community.

The processed mangrove products such as syrup and soap can increase the income of the community and introduce the creative economy development of environment-based communities.

This program started when Langadai villagers cut mangrove trees to be firewood. At the time, the area was susceptible to seawater intrusion, or seepage infiltration to the mainland causing water on land to become brackish.

Given the location close enough to one of Indocement's factories, the company was moved to prevent such hazards.

Corporate & Public Communication Manager of PT Indocement Pigo Pramusakti explained that in 2012, together with academics in the South Kalimantan,  the company prevented illegal logging of mangrove trees.
It consistently involved community leaders and local village authorities to stop illegal logging.

"In fact, Tiga Roda is currently also designing Mangrove forest area as a planning release area of the endangered species of Bekantan, which previously rescued and treated at the Indocement Wildlife Education Center (IWEC)," Pigo explained.

The programs are part of  it social and environmental responsibility (CSR) and as a form of corporate contribution in encouraging the achievement of the 14th objective of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Meanwhile, the Platinum Award was handed over on Thursday (30/11) at Balai Kartini Jakarta, and this prestigious event was initiated by Corporate Forum for Community Development (CFCD) Indonesia.
