Tanjung, South Kalimantan 19/10 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Tabalong Agriculture Agency has accelerated the development of maize crop of 879 hectares in 2017 from the target of around 1,036 hectares.

Head of the Palawija (crops planted as the 2d crop in the dry season) Section of the agency Kurdiansyah here on Thursday said the development of maize plant involves the local Indonesian Youth Farmers Movement (Gempita).

"As prospective farmers on corn development field this year are five farmer groups incorporated in the Gempita," explained Kurdiansyah.

They are farmer groups in Kasiau Village, Nawin Village, Binjai Village and Mabuun Village with total land area of 870 hectares of corn, including 200 hectares at rubber plant site by applying the intercropping system in Bongkang Village, Kembang Kuning Village, Marindi Village, and Pangelak Village, Sub-district of Upau.

This corn development program is an assistance of the 2017 State Budget (APBN) in the form of seeds 15 kilograms per hectare and subsidized fertilizer, said Kurdiansyah.

Previously a coordination meeting held to accelerate the development of corn in this region which was attended by Director Serelia Director General of Food Crops Agus Gunawan who socialized the movement of three million hectares maize development in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Head of Food Crops Division of Food and Horticulture Agency Kusmaryanto said the corn development target in South Kalimantan is 97,715 hectares for this year.
