Rantau, South Kalimantan, 18/3 (AntaranewsKalsel) - Farmers in Tapin, South Kalimantan, seeks to develop seedless oranges which considered quite beneficial and suitable to be planted in the lowlands in several sub-districts.


Vice Regent H Sufian Noor in Rantau on Saturday said one of steps to develop the plant is by a working visit to the Research Institute for Orange and Subtropical Fruit (Balitjestro) of Agriculture Ministry in Batu District, East Java.

According to vice regent, one focus of Tapin development today is to develop agriculture and horticulture sectors, through innovation and new technology.

"So we come to Balitjestro, as there are many superior oranges seeds here can be developed in a low area such as Tapin," said Sufian.

Furthermore, he added, the Agriculture Agency will develop the orange through demonstration plots or cluster system, to find the exact orange could actually be developed and profitable for farmers in Tapin.

"We ask the agency first collecting superior oranges to know exactly what is really suitable to be developed in the Tapin," said vice regent.

Earlier, Head of Technical Services Section ofBalitjestro Anang Triwiratno said, in an area of 12 hectares of the center 245 varieties of oranges are developed from throughout Indonesia.
