The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that a magnitudo 3,7 shallow earthquake had trembled Banjarbaru City and Tanah Laut District in South Kalimantan. akibat patahan Pegunungan Meratus.

Head of the Geophysics Station of the Balikpapan BMKG Rasmid informed here on Friday that the tectonics quake caused by the Meratus Mountains thrust fault centered on the land about 8 kilometers southeast of Banjar District, South Kalimantan, at a depth of 14 kilometers.

“It occurs in the morning around 09.02 WITA (Central Indonesia Time) in South Kalimantan. The result of BMKG analysis shows gempa bumi ini memiliki parameter update dengan magnitudo 3,7,” katanya.

By considering the location of the epicenter and the depth of hypocenter, he said, the quake was a shallow type caused by activity of Meratus fault.

“Based on the estimed shaking map, this quake caused shaking in Martadah Village area, Tambang Ulang Sub-district in Tanah Laut District and the City of Banjarbaru,” he said.

It was felt on the II MMI scale or the tremble felt by several people and light object hanging on the walls swayed.

However, appealed to the people in Banjarbaru and Tanah Laut District to remain calm and and not to be influenced by issues or information that cannot be justified.

Rasmid asked the public to avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged due to the quake. Check and make sure that the building, especially house, is resistant enough to the quake.
