The Government of Banjar District, South Kalimantan  Province, received a Yaws-free award from the Indonesian Health Ministry for the success of eliminating this infectious disease.

Banjar Regent Saidi Mansyur then handed over the award in the form of certificate to the District's Head of Health Office Yasna Khairina after the National Awakening Day ceremony in Martapura, Monday (May 20, 2024).
 
"Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), we are grateful for this award given by the Ministry of Health as proof of the the ability of all level of Banjar District Government to be free from Yaws," he remarked.

Regent Saidi hopes that Yaws or chronic infectious skin disease will no longer be found after not being discovered for the lastfive years, resulting in an award from the Health Ministry.
 
According to Saidi, Yaws can be prevented by washing hands with soap and running water, clean and healthy lifestyle (PHBS), as well as avod direct contact yaws sufferers.
 
"We hope all the people will take steps to prevent yaws,  especially always maintain clean sanitation and surrounding environment so they can avoid from the attack of this infestious disease," Saidi advised.
 
Previously, the Regent led a ceremony commemorating the 116th National Awakening Day and 75th Anniversary of the Governor's Proclamation of Indonesian Navy Division IV Kalimantan Defense in the courtyard of Banjar Regent Office in Martapura.
