Banjar District has successfully retained overall champion at the 35th National Quran Recitation Competition or Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) for the provincial level of South Kalimantan 2024 in Rantau, Tapin Regency.
"Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah), Banjar kafilah (caravan) has achieved the best results, so it retains the overall champion," said Banjar Deputy Regent Said Idrus Al Habsyi in Martapura, Friday.
Banjar, who sent dozens of participants to the MTQ, won 114 points from 32 competitions held.
Governor Sahbirin Noor closed the South Kalimantan National MTQ, which was held from April 24 to May 2, 2024.
He congratulated kafilah and regions who were able to achieve the best performance in the MTQ, which was attended by 13 districts and cities throughout South Kalimantan.
"Hopefully the achievements achieved by participants and kafilah will increase awareness making the Qur'an a reading that is always longed for," said Sahbirin.

He pointed out that the successful of organizing South Kalimantan MTQ 2024 did not only belong to Tapin and the winners, but the joint success of grounding the Qur'an in the Earth of Babussalam South Kalimantan.
"MTQ is a mean of introducing the sonority and beauty of riciting the holy verses of the Qur'an, test memorization as well as the arena to broadcast Islam itself," said Uncle Birin, Sahbirin's nickname.
Acting Regent of Tapin M Syarifuddin said the provincial National MTQ has produced champions in each branch contested so he appreciated the achievements.
"Congratulation to participants and kafilah who succeeded in achieving the best achievement in this South Kalimantan MTQ. We give appreciation in the form of umroh for 32 best participants in the branches of competitions," he said.
