Regent of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, H Sayed Jafar has instructed the Environment Service (DLH) to deploy heavy equipment to organize piles of rubbish at the final waste disposal (TPA), Sungup Village, Pulau Laut Tengah Sub-district.

"The landfill needs to be managed well, to make it neat not scatter, and to be arranged optimally," said Sayed Jafar here, Friday.

He said that the Sungup landfill will still able to accomodate waste for the next few years in Kotabaru.

As a first step, Sayed asked that the accumulated waste to be transported to the edge of the land that would be used for excavation.

The Regent wants the excavated land to be made into a road, as well as surrounding road, to facilitate access for further waste disposal.

In addition, Sayed also requested that the park, the entrance from the main road to the waste dump, be beautified and arranged as neatly as possible to add aesthetic value.

Head of Environment Service Maulidiansyah said that the Sungup landfill covers an area of 20 hectares.

The Kotabaru government plans to excavate Sungup landfill to organize and design the disposal location so it can accomodate maximum waste.

The excavation of land to dispose waste measuring 100 meters x 120 meters as a the next waste management step.
