Tanjung, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Tabalong Regional Secretary Abdul Muttalib Sangadji said the presence of PT Agro Lestari Mandiri (AML) in the district being a pioneer of modern cattle farms and can meet the local meat needs.


"The government of Tabalong open an opportunity for investors to develop cattle farm and the current PT Agro Lestari Mandiri has built a center of beef cattle in the village of Cakung, Murung Pudak Sub-district," he said in Tanjung, Wednesday.

On an area of 5 hectares PT AML started raising 49 superior beef cattle and is scheduled to ship 400 beef cows. PT AML is one of the subsidiaries of PT Adaro Energy Tbk.

Abdul also hopes fattening cattle could be smooth, so in addition to increasing their income through livestock sector also to fulfill of cow need in the `Earth Saraba Kawa` (Tabalong).

PT AML Project Manager Kharil Azmi revealed cattle business is a concern of Indonesian government who still imports cattle from Australia to meet the needs of domestic meat.

"In South Kalimantan alone beef consumption reached 20 thousand kg per year, while the availability of supply is not balanced. So cattle had to be brought from outside the province," he said.

Khairil added cattle business conducted by PT AML is expected to change the paradigm of society, that Adaro is not only engaged in the coal sector.

Instead, through this business diversification community is expected to be driven to see similar opportunities.

In addition to the cattle ranch, PT AML in future will also develop goats in Tabalong, said Khairil.
