Red chili peppers emerged as the primary driver of inflation in November 2023, contributing 0.16 percent to the overall 0.38 percent inflation rate, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS).
"Red chili peppers account for the largest share of inflation, at 0.16 percent," stated Moh. Edy Mahmud, BPS's Deputy for Balance Sheet and Statistical Analysis, on Friday.
Other commodities contributing to inflation include cayenne peppers (0.08 percent), shallots (0.03 percent), rice (0.02 percent), granulated sugar, and chicken eggs (both 0.01 percent).
The food, beverage, and tobacco expenditure group was the most dominant factor in November's inflation, contributing 0.32 percent.

Meanwhile, gasoline (0.04 percent), fresh fish, and chicken meat (both 0.01 percent) contributed to deflation.
Thirty-six cities experienced inflation above the national rate, with Bandar Lampung recording the highest inflation at 1.05 percent.
Other cities with high inflation rates include Gorontalo City (0.98 percent), Sumenep City and Singaraja City (both 0.87 percent), Timika City (0.84 percent), and Banjarmasin City (0.81 percent).
Cirebon City recorded the lowest inflation at 0.16 percent.
Tual City experienced the deepest deflation at 0.51 percent, followed by Waingapu City (0.37 percent), Mamuju City (0.28 percent), Tanjung Pandan City (0.21 percent), and Singkawang City (0.01 percent).
