Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Regional Banjar Bakula Drinking Water Treatment System (SPAM) in South Kalimantan prioritize areas prone and difficult to get clean water.


"The SPAM Regional program is an activity of Ministry of Public Works and in line with the governor's program to overcome prone areas and the water crisis in South Kalimantan," said Head of South Kalimantan Public Works Agency Martinus in Banjarbaru, Friday.

He said some of prone and water shortages areas handled by SPAM pipelines are Bati Bati and Kurau Sub-district in the district of Tanah Laut.

Thousands of people living in the two sub-districts do not enjoy clean water and only rely on well water which is white as milk.

"People there do not get to enjoy clean water, because taps pipeline have not been up to and the SPAM Banjar Bakula as its purpose overcome that difficulty," he said.

According to him, today the installation of SPAM piping reached tens of kilometers from Mandi Kapau River to water trwatment IPA II Pinus Banjarbaru has been completed.

Further work is the installation of piping to the Tanah Laut to connect to pipelines belonging to local taps water company, including to serving the two clean water crisis sub-districts.

"The installation of pipelines towards Tanah Laut reached 60 percent, and the mounting position of the pipe is still in the area of Banjarbaru. We are optimistic it is completed at end of 2016," he said.

In addition to overcoming the crisis-prone areas, Banjar Bakula SPAM program is a concrete step to realize the availability of clean water for five cities and districts in South Kalimantan.

The five cities and districts are Banjarbaru, Banjarmasin, Banjar, Tanah Laut and Barito Kuala which are located adjacent to each other.

"The SPAM pipeline will be used by respective districts and city taps to serve water to customers to connect from home to home," he said.
