The Tapin District Environment Agency (DLH) has reported the natural gas well, which was discovered by a resident in Tungkap Village, Binuang Sub-district, to the Energy and Mineral Resources Office (ESDM) of South Kalimantan Province.

Head of the agency Nurdin said a Tungkap villager found the gas when digging to make a drilled well.

"We have reported it to the South Kalimantan ESDM Office, they will follow it up for certainty," said Nurdin when confirmed here, Thursday. 

Nurdin explained that his agency could not confirm whether the natural gas that emits fire was potentially dangerous or not.

Nurdin said that DLH Tapin could only give warnings to people in the surrounding area to stay away from range limits for safety reasons.

This natural phenomenon was found by resident around the house in Tungkap Village while looking for water sources during dry season by drilling, Wednesday (Oct 4, 2023).

Head of Binuang Sub-district Henderiyanor Efendi said that residents had temporarily closed the mouth of the hole, whihc is around  30 meters deep, because it could emit fire at a height of around 30 cm. 

"It has been closed, because we are worried that there is a gas that is dangerous to human health," he said.

Efendi hopes that the authorities, such as ESDM Service of South Kalimantan to immediately handle it.
