The government of Tapin District, South Kalimantan, is preparing a special program for Hiyung bird's eye chili plantation that it will be avoidable from forest and land fires (karhutla) which were detrimental to farmers.


Head of Tapin Agriculture Office Triasmoro said this spatial planning need to be done considering Hiyung bird's eye chili is a national level commodity.

"Insya Allah (God Willing) will be realized in 2024, we are prioritizing it," he said in Rantau, Monday.

The arrangement, said Triasmoro, will be followed by the construction of infrastructure and supporting facilities, both to support agriculture productivity and disaster mitigation.

"We will build a reservoir, also drill well in the center area of Hiyung bird's eye chili," he said.

For the sake of this national commodity his office will provide maximum supporting program so that the economic growth of Hiyung bird's eye chili will be bright in the future.

Triasmoro said this program is implemented in reflection of karhutla incident that occurred in August-September 2023, many farmers suffered losses.

Throughout August-September, 21,690 ready to harvest Hiyung bird's eye chili trees, or about five hectares, were affected by karhutla. 

The Agriculture Office in the near future will also hand over assistance in the form production equipment (saprodi) to farmers affected by wildfires, so that they remain enthusiastic about planting the hottest cayenne pepper in Indonesia.
