The District Government of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, held an expose on plans for a total renavation of the Grand Mosque of Husnul Khotimah in Sebatung Village, Pulau Laut Utara Sub-district.
"The mosque will be built with a modern concept equipped with several supporting facilities," said Regent Sayed Jafar in Kotabaru, Friday.
The Regent expounded that the facilities includes a marriage hall, one stop office for the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Kotabaru, the Kotabaru Tilawatil Qur'an Institute (LPTQ), mosque secretariat, Al Quran learning for children (TPA), archive room, meeting room, and resting place for pilgrims.
"This is the third expose in the renovation plan for the construction of the Husnul Khotimah Grand Mosque," he said.
He also explained that the mosque building has three floors, one dome and four towers, and is equipped with lift, and additional facility for haj rehearsal (manasik haji).
The mosque was built on April 5, 1987 during the government of the 9th Regent of Kotabaru H.M.R Husein in the 1985-1990 period.
The construction was initiated by a proposal to renovate the Baitul Abrar Jami Mosque in line with the increasing population of Kotabaru and road access becoming more open.
It was initiated by Regent N. Soetejo and continued by Regent H.M.R. Husein by forming a construction committee with Regent's Decree Number VI-8-29/Kesra dated September 23, 1985.
