The Agriculture and Food Security Office of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, has provided goats for two farmer groups, one in Semisir Village, Pulau Laut Tengah Sub-district, and the other in Sebelimbingan Village, Pulau Laut Utara Sub-distrct.


“The assistance that we provide to farmer groups is to push them to be self-sufficient in animal husbandry," said Head of the Office through acting Head of Livestock and Animal Health Sidiq Adi Susilo here, Tuesday.

Sidiq said the Agriculture Office has a central role and is expected to be able to meet the need for food self-sufficiency, both locally and nationally, to boost community economic growth.

This is in line with the government's goal in the effort to improving people welfare, especially farmers, breeders, planters in Kotabaru District.

"Use this assistance as best as possible and hopefully this aid will be useful for us all,” he said.

To Harapan Rakyat Farmers Group in Semisir Village handed over 11 etawa goats and six to Sekar Sari Farmers Group in Sebelimbingan.

Sidiq said that not only providing livestock, the office will also provide assistance in the farming process so the farmers get maximum results.

He hopes that the Etawa goat breeds provided to stimulate farmers to develop larger farm.

"We are very grateful for the this assistance. Hopefully we can care for and develop more," said Samsul Bahri, Chair of Harapan Rakyat Farmers in Semisir, which also has an agriculture and plantation business.
 
Samsul hopes that the assistance in the coming year will not only goat but also cattle to maximize livestock development efforts being fostered by the Kotabaru Agriculture and Food Security Office.
