Tanjung, 4/8 (ANTARA) - The government of Tabalong, South Kalimantan, has formed students monitoring mosquito larvae (sismantik) in 22 elementary schools as an effort to control Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF).


Head of Communicable Diseases and Environmental Health (P2PL) of Tabalong Health Agency Akhmad Rivai in Tanjung on Thursday said larvae monitoring by primary school children carry out in the sub-district of Tanjung and Murung Pudak.

"Training for students to monitoring larvae already carried out in 22 schools in the hope they can help control dengue in Tabalong," said Rivai.

In addition to involving elementary school students to monitor larvae, the Health Agency also formed mosquito larvae monitoring officer (jumantik) in all sub-districts.

DHF control efforts in the region are also conducted through early warning system in the elementary school, 4 M Plus program and fumigation (fogging) as well as counseling.

DHF patients figures in Tabalong is relatively high reached 561 cases with four deaths. In previous year dengue recorded 468 cases with six deaths, told Rivai.

Tabalong Health Agency also conduct periodic evaluation monitoring of larvae and training of introductory use of fogging for fogging cadres in Tabalong.
