South Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kalsel) planted as many as 1,000 tree seedlings to support reforestation program as well as to commemorate Indonesia's 78th Independence Day.

"Alhamdulilah (praise be to Allah) we fill this year's independence commemoration with tree planting for reforestation," said Head of South Kalimantan Police Human Resources Bureau Sr comr Muhammad Arif Sugiarto in Banjarbaru, Friday. 

Arif led the planting of tree seedlings, which titled "National Police Preserve Greening of Country from Early Moment" held at three locations.

First at the service building area of Traffic Police Directorate and Mess Sabhara on Jalan Ahmad Yani km 21, Banjarbaru. The other two places were in area around the Banjarbaru State Police School (SPN) and Sub-district of Aluh-Aluh, Banjar District.

Simultaneous planting was carried out by South Kalimantan Police as an instruction from National Police Chief's Assistant for Human Resources (As SDM) Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo which was followed by all Human Resources Bureau in Indonesia.

Types of trees planted by Polda Kalsel were trambesi, mahoni, bungur, meranti and mangrove-type plant, rambai mangrove, which was planted on the coast of Barito River.
 
Arif said that this activity was expected to be a trigger to raise public awareness to love the environment. 

Especially in tropical area such as Kalimantan and Indonesia in general, the presence of trees is very vital to deal with pollution that is generated on the roads as well as providing oxygen supply for humans.

"Reforestation program is a form of human's role in protecting environment and Polri (National Police) is committed to preserving nature for the sake of survival of living things," he said. 

On August 23, 2023 the National Police plan to plant trees simultaneously throughout Indonesia with a target of 1,000 tree seedlings for each district/city police.
