South Kalimantan Provincial Police (Polda Kalsel) has inaugurated 1,099 community unit (RW) level police to be deployed in 13 district and city police to help solve problems that occur at the RW and neighborhood unit (RT) level.

"For the first stage 1,099 personel are inaugurated as RW police and immediately work in fostering security with the community," said the South Kalimantan Police's Regional Monitoring Inspectorate (Irwasda) Senior Commissioner (Kombes) Turman Sormin Siregar in Banjarmasin, Tuesaday.

Indonesia's National Police adopted the Jakarta Metropolitan Police's RW level police program as a nationwide programme to bolster communication and interactions between law enforcers and the residents they are serving.

Turman said, of the total 3,043 RW in South Kalimantan about 36.1 percent are fulfilled. He assured that the RW police program would continue to be developed and optimized.

RW police are assigned with building community that can work together with the community in order to improve security and order as well as become a problem solver in the RW environment.

He advised all personnel to always adhere to the principle of obidience in accordance with procedure in carrying out their duties and fully understand the characteristics of society, because each environment has customs and rules that must be respected.

"Like a saying that where the earth is stepped on and the sky is respected. So, the RW police must priotize the local wisdom of the community," said Turman representing South Kalimantan Regional Police Chief Inspector General Andi Rian R Djajadi.

Irwasda also invites all parties to support RW police program to maintain security and order to run optimally to support the smooth of development in the region.
