One of Adaro Logistics subsidiaries, PT Maritim Barito Perkasa (PT MBP), is implementing a pilot project of creating a fostered village that is concerned with waste management.

PT MBP, a coal transportation company that serves Adaro's mine in South and Central Kalimantan, commited to create Environmental Management Awareness Village through climate village program (proklim) of Mantuil Bahimat. Bahimat stands for clean, green, and benefit.

CSR Superintendent of Adaro Logistics Abi Thalhah said that the company wanted to raise awareness about the importance of a good environmental management to the surrounding community in dealing with global cimate change, especially in Banjarmasin City.

"The guidance of environmentally aware village in Mantuil Urban Village is a form of our support for Baiman (clean and comfortable) program in Banjarmasin," Abi explained, Thursday.

Environmental Management Awareness Village is actually the Adaro Turns On Sustainability Pillar's activity to be implemented in the PT MBP's surrounding by planting trees.

Abi believes this activity has a social impact for the surrounding commmunity, because commmunity development is one of the company's social responsibility. PT MBP's domicile is in Mantuil Urban Village, South Banjarmasin. 

"This tree planting is very important, because reforestation is very benefitial for the environment, especially in extreme weather condition," said Mantuil Environmental Ambassador Muhammad Abdi, who considered this activity part of education for parties, especially students.

By collaborating with Banjarmasin Environment Agency (DLH), the community, Green Leader alumni,  Banjarmasin Baiman Main Garbage Bank, 40 trees were planted along the Mantuil Village road.

The tree planting action was also attended by representatives of South Kalimantan DLH, Banjarmasin DLH, South Banjarmasin Sub-district, management and employees of PT MBP, Bhabinkamtibmas, Babinsa Mantuil, representatives of schools, RT, and RW.

"Trees are very useful for us all, beside being able to reduce air pollution, they also provide oxygen for the environment," said Head of South Banjarmasin Sub-district Firdaus. 

He also hopes that this activity became stimulant that motivates residents to take part in maintaining the environment together.(Adv)
