South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor together with Tanah Laut Regent HM Sukamta and the province government officials planted 7,000 mangrove seedlings along the district's coast in Sungai Bakau Village, Kurau Sub-district.
Mangrove planting is part of Green Revolution Program to deal with climate change, the Governor said as quoted from the Tanah Laut Communication and Informatics Office's (Diskominfo's) press release, Tuesday.
"Mangrove planting is part of Green Revolution that we have declared for years. This is our effort to at least reduce the heat the is being felt," Sahbirin said in the activities carried out concurrently with commemoration of the 2023 World Environment Day.

On this occasion, the Governor, who is familiarly known as Uncle Birin, launched the Net Zero Emission From the Ocean (Nemo) program as an effort to restore coastal areas, adapt and mitigate climate change as well as reducing carbon emissions starting from coast.
One of the Tanah Laut District figures, Abdul Kadir, stated that he fully support the efforts of South Kalimantan Provincial Government and Tanah Laut government by planting mangrove.
According to this General Chairman of the South Kalimantan Dayak Customary Council (DAD), planting tree seedlings is very important for sustainability environment, where earth becomes greener and animal habitats can be breed well.
Previously, he said, his party together with the local board of Pemuda Panca Marga had participated in planting trees around Mount Timah, Panyipatan sub-district, Tanah Laut.
"Hopefully the plants we plants will be beneficial for sustainability of our environment," he said.
