The South Kalimantan Provincial Government schedules to hold the 2023 Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis) Jamboree with Meratus Geopark insight.

"We plan to hold it at the end of July at Kiram Park," said Head of South Kalimantan Tourism Office Muhammad Syarifuddin here on Tuesday.

Pokdarwis Jamboree, he said, is the first time to be held and is estimated that 300 pokdarwis members throughout South Kalimanta will attend.

Jamboree aims to add insight into self-help groups engaged in tourism sector, especially that related to the development of tourism.

What is more important for them to know, said Syarifuddin, everything about Meratus Geopark, which became national geopark in 2018.

"We want them to be able to participate in educating visitors," said Syarifuddin.

Previously, the Meratus Geopark Management Agency had prepared 11 international class geosite and 22 national class  geosite --including cultural arts, flora and fauna, and culinary potentials-- in submitting Meratus as UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp).

"Pokdarwis must know and partake in protecting and preserve geopark sites in our area, so that tourist visit to our province continue to increase, people's economy also increases, including pokdarwis," he said.

Jambore will also invites partners, he said, including Indonesian Tour Guide Association (HPI), Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI), Indonesian Tourism Actors Association (ASPPI), and Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA).

“With the presence of our partners, we hope to build synergies between South Kalimantan Tourism  Office, pokdarwis, and tour managers to improve tourist visits to Banua (South Kalimantan)," said Syarifuddin.
