The Government of South Kalimantan stated that the province has zero foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) cases in animals since July, 2022.
Head of the Plantation and Animal Husbandry Office Suparmi in Banjarbaru on Monday (Dec 19, 2022) said that South Kalimantan is ready to be the FMD white zone.
"There is no longer a red zone status to the green zone, our step is to go straight to the white zone," she pointed out.
She elaborated that since July 2022 no more cases of transmission were found. To continue to maintain this conditon, serious handling was carried out from provinces to districts and cities.

Today, the provincial government held a meeting coordination to evaluate FMD handling in districts and cities.
According to her, the evaluation results showed the handlings of FMD have been going so well, no more cases found since July 2022.
"But it is the Director General of Animal Husbandry and Health Animals of the Ministry of Agriculture who will determine that our region is a white zone," she said.
South Kalimantan was previously entered the 19 FMD red zone provinces. The first case was detected in East Java around May 2022.
As many as 500 head of animals, especially cows, in South Kalimantan were infeced with FMD, and some cows were dead.
The provincial government then formed a task force for its seriousness in handling the FMD. By July, with the implementation of livestock vaccination, FMD could be controlled.

Previously, the National Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Handling Task Force reported that 12 provinces in Indonesia had recorded zero active FMD cases in farm animals as of November 23, 2022.
"Of the 25 provinces affected or infected with FMD, 12 of them, or 48 percent, have reported zero cases, meaning that they have not reported (any transmission cases)," the task force's coordinator, Wiku Adisasmito, stated at the FMD national coordination meeting here on Wednesday.
