The Kotabaru Legislative Council (DPRD) Deputy Speaker Mukhni As together with Rukun Makmur Farmers Group have harvested corn at the Pramasan Village, Hampang Sub-district, Kotabaru, South Kalimantan.

"The farmers are amazing the have harvested 18 hectares of corn, it's worth to be an example for other regions," said Mukhni As as reported on Sunday from Kotabaru.

He regreted that corn commodity was still not attractive to farmer groups in some areas, but this harvest proved that corn is capable of producing economic value.

"The community's understanding must be changed so that the potential land should be utilized for corn plantations in Kotabaru District," he pointed out.

Mukhni As also gave appreciation to farmer groups who were able to turn idle land into productive land.

He hopes that other members of the DPRD will provide the basic idea program (pokran) to farmers in their respective constituencies so that they can improve the community's economy.

Acting Head of the Kotabaru Agriculture Office Akhmad Junaidi revealed that the commodities and corn plants harvested were of the NK or bisi type.

"It's amazing that their harvest was able to produce 9.9 tons per hectare based on the yield," said Juniadi.

He hopes that agricultural activists in Kotabaru will be able to take advantage of the large amount of vacant land to be used as private or farmer group's plantations.

In this way, he said, we will support food security for Kotabaru, and will improve the economy of the community.
