Batulicin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The government of Tanah Bumbu District, South Kalimantan, targeting the area whose nicknamed `Earth Bersujud` will be self-sufficient in food by 2016.


"To achieve the target of food self-sufficiency is essentially not an easy thing without good cooperation of all components of agriculture that exist," said Acting Regent of Tanah Bumbu H. Wahyuddin in Batulicin, Monday.

He said in period 2016 the paddy production target 105,984 tonnes with total planting area of ??24,500 hectares.

While the planting area of ??maize production in 10 sub-districts targeted 2,000 hectares and its production targets as many as 8,730 tonnes.

The target for soybean planting area of  600 hectares with a target production 749 tonnes.

"For the rice plant, we have succeeded in achieving food self-sufficiency, but other commodities such as corn and soybeans still needs to be improved," he said.

Head of Tanah Bumbu Food Crops and Livestock Abdul Karim added, in order to achieve the target of food self-sufficiency hard work is needed from all parties, both from farmers and governments to synergize.

"The target has to be achieved in the planting season from October to March-Mar). Time is relatively low, not to mention the emergence of obstacles due to weather changes that may occur," he said.

Therefore, Karim continued, there are some things that might be done to reach the target of food self-sufficiency, including by way of process of planting simultaneously, minimal cropping twice a year, controlling fertilizer, control of crop pests, and to control grain prices of rice, soy, and corn.
