Barabai, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The South Kalimantan Health Agency continues its effort to prevent HIV/ AIDS epidemic, among others, by gathering vulnerable communities exposed to a disease that attacks the immune system.


Chairman of the AIDS Prevention Commission (KPA) of Health Agency Mursalin in Barabai on Tuesday said, through community representatives are expected, dissemination of HIV/AIDS would be much more effective.

"Almost every year we always have a meeting with many vulnerable communities exposed to HIV/AIDS, among others, by transvestites, commercial sex workers and others," he said.

According to him, as many as 64 representatives from 13 districts and cities participating in meetings on dissemination of HIV/AIDs.

The meeting, he said, is expected to provide insight and understanding about HIV/AidS, so that the group can avoid and explain to the people, even friends, about the dangers of the disease.

Acting Regional Secretary of the Cental Hulu Sungai (HST) H Wildon hoped this meeting be a positive event for the participants to be more alert to the dangers of AIDS.

"We are honored our region to host this meeting. Hopefully in the future this activity could provide more clear information about the dangers of AIDS and how to handle," he said.

In addition to the material given on the dangers of HIV, the participants who were also key populations to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDs given the knowledge and skills of the creative economy. They are expected to open their own business, without having to work with a factor of transmitting HIV/AIDS.

Based on the data revealed in the coordination meeting in South Kalimantan provincial government office in 2014, the spread of HIV/AIDS reported 1,014 cases or 0.028 percent of the 3,626,616 residents of South Kalimantan.
