South Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor inaugurated two PLN strategic electricity projects, namely the electric vehicle charging station (SPKLU), the largest in Kalimantan, and the 24-hour power-on of six villages in Banjar District.
The event at the PLN Main Unit for South and Central Kalimantan (UIW Kalselteng) in Banjarbaru on Thursday was attended by the Chairman of South Kalimantan DPRD Supian HK, Head of the South Kalimantan State Intelligence Agency Heri Armanto, and the General Manager PLN UIW Kalselteng Tonny Bellamy.
"Thank you PLN for continuing to improve its services to the public, in particular expanding the network of electrical energy distribution to villages at the end of Banua (South Kalimantan)," said the Governor, who is familiarly called Uncle Birin.
"Essentially, electrical energy is not only a source of lighting but also a source of prosperity and welfare. An adequate electrical energy supply is a distinct advantage for South Kalimantan, who is currently moving forward towards industrial downstreaming, and sufficient to meet the rapidly growing demand for electric cars," he said.
In order to support the Green Revolution Movement which he has launched through the Regional Regulation No. 7 of 2018, he invites people to love the earth more by protecting the environment through the Borneo Green Environment Movement.
General Manager of PLN UIW Kalselteng Tonny Bellamy explained that the six villages, namely Banua Riam, Kala’an, Apuai, Belangian, Pa’au, and Artain which previously had 12 hours of light, are now connected to Kalimantan system, then 609 customers have enjoyed 24 hours electricity.
"To make this happen, PLN has built an electricity network that stretches across river and hilly terrain along 14 circuit kilometers (KMS) Medium Voltage Network (JTM) and 2 KMS Low Voltage Network (JTR). At the same time stopping the operation of diesel generator PLTD Banua Riam, so that PLN basic cost production can be more efficient, and supported the government's commitment to achieve the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) in 2030 and net zero emission in 2060," he said.
He pointed out that PLN UIW Kalselteng, which is currently recorded of providing a capable power of Barito-Mahakam System of 1,679 MW, with a peak load of 1,233 MW, resulting a surplus of 445 MW, redy to support the Borneo Green Environment Movement.
